Sachin Tendulkar Makes the Nation Proud With Another World Record

Once again Sachin Tendulkar is in news and for all the good reasons. He managed to make yet another world record (did you think there was any record left that he hadn't made already!!!) by becoming the first ever cricketer to score a double century in a One-Day international match against South Africa at Gwalior on 24-Feb-2010.

Sachin is no wonder an idol, youth icon and GOD for many Indians who praise him, appreciate him and love him in the purest form. Maybe he is the only person in Cricket history to have broken and re-broken so many world records that it is very hard for any aspiring cricketer to achieve the levels of success that he is attained in his 20 year career.

Recently a political party accused him of being biased when he claimed to be an Indian first and then a Maharashtrian (the Indian state to which he belongs by birth). What was wrong with that? And the legend that he is, he chose to maintain his silence and an entire nation stood up in his support. I am very sure each and every Indian is very very proud of him and adores the way he plays.

You ask any Indian and probably they would all say that he must continue playing cricket for many more years to come, after having already completed 20 years playing for the nation.

In this particular match against South Africa at Gwalior, Sachin made a magnificent innings where he broke the previous world record and went ahead to make 200 runs, with 25 fours and 3 sixes. Amazing is it not? But in between when just a few balls were remaining in the innings and Indian Captain M.S. Dhoni was trying very high to accelerate and collect runs, thereby at times not giving Sachin the batting when he was in his 190s, everyone was getting frustrated. Every Indian had just one thing to say, forget the team total, its already good, let Sachin make the double century.GPS Tracking

Sachin Tendulkar was awarded Man of the Match for this match, well no one ever had any doubt after he played those magnificent innings and for a change Indian bowlers also supported him very well by ensuring that India won the match with a very good margin. But that's not the point, what I want to emphasize here is that Sachin at this point in his career has risen far above any award, any record. What is another Man of the Match award for him!

The IPL Delete List

Due to racist violence against Indian students in Australia and due to terror attacks on Sri Lankan players inside Pakistan the IPL management decided to axe these players from IPL 3.

This saw a retrograde public reaction. The PCB also placed a complaint against the IPL management with the ICC. The funniest part of the complaint is that how ICC can resolve matters related to a Private franchise that is owned by some individuals.

But the point is at least it is hoped now that the Aussies wake up to the fact that innocent students cannot be killed and Pakistan wakes up the fact of being careful to provide enough security for players. Though the action inside Australia may be instigated by a few racially minded citizens, the killing of innocent students left much to be desired. At least now, by dropping the Aussie players from IPL 3, it is hoped that the Australian government and the citizens understand the effect of racial attacks against innocent students.

Let us be assured that the issue has been handled ethically by the IPL management. They do not have any vengeance or vendetta against a specific player in order to exclude them from participating in the cricket matches. This has been done only in the hope that the world will realize how painful it is to see a terror attack during a cricket game or hear news about the murder of yet another student in Australia.

Hopefully IPL 4 will see the reinclusion of these players and will also see reduction of violence in cricket and in general reduction of attacks against innocent Indian students in Australia.

IPL 2010

The third edition of Indian Premier League is just a few months away and already people have started going crazy. The auction for players on January 19th was followed by people with utmost interest on Internet and television, suggesting cricket crazy India is ready for the third edition.

The first edition was a run away hit and the second edition was unfortunately not held in India due to government elections clashing at the same time. It was held in South Africa and many thought it would not bring the same amount of success, but proved everyone wrong as South African public gave a thumbs up and it was a hit as well. The third edition is back to India.

All the 8 franchisees have started planning well in advance by formulating a team strategy that suits their team. Even the franchises are coming to terms with this new version of the game. They must have had less knowledge about the game during the inaugural season but would have known somewhat about the game and their own team.

The auction of players for 2010 edition has just concluded and as expected West Indian Keiron Pollard was the hottest buy along with Kiwi fast bowler Shane Bond. Thanks to last years champions league in India, Keiron Pollard has just become a millionaire. Most of the teams wanted him to be a part their team and in the end Mumbai Indians bought him for a record sum.

Come this March and April, talk of the town in India and around the world would be certainly the Indian Premier League. The players themselves must be quite excited to play in front of packed crowds where that is becoming a rarity even for international games.

Just to remind you the champions in the first edition were Rajasthan Royals and Deccan Chargers from Hyderabad lifted last years crown. So who will it be this time? We will have the answer on the night of April 25.

Come lets enjoy the carnival of cricket!!!
